Meares-Irlen syndrome, also known as visual stress, is a perceptual processing disorder. Here, there lies a problem within the ability to process visual information within the brain. On average, approximately 5% of the population are severely affected by Visual Stress and 20% have minor symptoms.
Visual stress has been found in many conditions such as Dyslexia, Autism, ADHD, Photosensitive Migraine and Epilepsy. the use of colours has been found to alleviate some of the symptoms caused by Visual Stress. These symptoms may include:
The Intuitive Colorimeter is a technique used to explore the colour space and helps to find the optimal tint which may relieve the symptoms. There are over 10,000 colour combinations available which is tailored to your own visual needs. The different colours help to make reading more comfortable and easier and are determined by the hue, saturation and brightness, which is tested during the test.
These colours can either come in the form of an overlay, to place on top of books and papers or as prescription lenses depending on what is required. Many patients benefit from both the lenses and the overlay, but this is entirely dependent upon the symptoms experienced.
